The name goes into the enquiry for you. Say where it goes and how big, and the drawing comes back before anything is booked.

What it means

The compass rose comes from navigation charts, where it marks north, south, east and west. For sailors it was a charm for finding the way back. Most people wear it now for direction in a looser sense: knowing where you are going, or finding your way back after being lost.

The original meaning was practical and the current one is a metaphor built on it, which is why it has lasted.
